I used this paddle both times on my first kayaking trips and it's great, well worth the money, especially for a beginner. I say this because its a strong paddle, it can take the river rocks, the logs, the dirt, the sand, anything you can throw at it without a hitch. I like that it's stiff, doesn't flex like some paddle blades can, makes it efficient both in water transfer and if you ever need to push off against the ground. I don't have fear of this paddle breaking. As the description says, its strong enough for beginners and recreationers alike. It isn't too heavy ether like some metal shaft paddles can be.

The Werner skaggit is and all around great paddle for any type of kayak. The carbon shaft is strong and light weight. The plastic blades are great for Missouri rivers and lakes, which tend to be filled with lots of rocks that like to eat wimpy paddles. These guys can take a beating. Also, great for beginners that don't need to overthink their gear.
